6.
When someone treats you badly (or nicely, that is a statement about _____, not a statement about you.
7.
A great example of a Bible character who took everything personally was Jonah. After being miraculously saved from the big fish, Jonah grudgingly obeyed God, and brought the message to Nineveh.
8.
Read Jonah 3:5 – 4:3. Why was Jonah so angry?
9.
What did Jonah ask God to do? (vs. 3)
10.
Read Jonah 4:5-11. What did God do for Jonah as he sat in his shelter? (vs. 6)
11.
What did God cause to happen to the plant? (vs. 7)
12.
What happened the next day? (vs. 8)
13.
What did Jonah say after the plant withered? (vs. 8-9)
14.
Why was Jonah so unhappy? What was his problem?
We can see Jonah measured everything God did by how it reflected on him, or how it affected his comfort. It was “all about him,” rather than all about others. Jonah took personally everything that God did. The Bible does not say how long after this time that Jonah remained angry, but we know he remained angry to the end of this book.
