"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast."
The Motivation:
Mike and I rode the Incline Railway at Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This is a nine minute trolley-style train ride, going nearly straight up for one mile. The breathtaking grade of the track increases to 72.7% near the top, giving this ride the distinction of being the steepest passenger railway in the world.
It was a great ride, but we were placing all our faith in two pulleys, pulling two sets of cables, connected together with a bunch of bolts and screws. That’s crazy!
To non-believers, faith in Jesus for salvation sounds crazy too. Common sense would tell us that we need to do good works, live a sinless life, or pay a hefty price for our sins, to make it to heaven.
But none of those things will save us. It may sound too easy, but all it really takes is faith in the saving work of Jesus Christ.
